So I managed to complete the Sony Ericsson Run to the Beat Half Marathon in a not-too embarrassing time in fact I managed to shave about 5 minutes off my last half marathon time.

So what was the race like? Well pretty well organised it started dead on time at 09:45 and I left about 22 minutes after the front runners set off. The main complaint and probably from most people was the water stations. They have little plastic cups and 1 litre bottles of water. The plastic cups pretty much went immediately and all that was left on many of the tables was big bottles of water. There were some Gatoraid stands but I noticed that most people did not seem to like this product.
There was a mixture of live and recorded music all round the circuit most of which was annoying – I listened to my iPod all the way round. The big issue for me was the 10 mile marker. 10 miles is where I went wobbly last time in Reading but this time I sailed on past it and in fact got a lot quicker in the last two miles. By the way my strategy was to run the first 10K in about 01:10:00 and then speed up in the second 10K. I more or less managed that.
All in all it was a good race and a good time. Oh, about 3/4 of the way round I had a mad thought…April, The London Marathon. OK let the training begin!

Eat. Good fresh uncomplicated food. Sandwiches soup pies salads desserts drinks breakfast. Well at least thats what the writing on the wall says. Eat has pitched itself as a competitor to Pret but there are some things that seem to be problematical about this food outlet. For a start there is the soup issue. Apart from soup being highly dubious in itself Eat has a seperate queue just for soup. This is a bit of a secret queue though as the only clue is the sandwich assistant shouting randomly ‘soup soup soup’ at people. I asked this person for a coffee and he stared back at me with a look of complete and utter contempt. I did not realise that I was in the soup only queue so pointlessly stood my ground. In the end I stepped into the next queue and managed to order my coffee but in Eat its not that straight forward. To get ones drink one has to join another queue, not the soup queue the drinks queue. This is another organisational wonder as there is no proper queuing system so a mass of people stand in a gang hoping that the next drink is the one that they ordered. The thing is there is no obvious ordering so its very stressful. The orders seen to be in the mind of the Barista as people who have clearly been at the front for a long time are moved out of the way as another drink is handed to the person at the back of the gaggle. We pay money to experience this.

I just walked past the Ministry of Sound disco and it looks like there has been a fire incident.
