There is a new film by Chan-wook Park called Saibogujiman kwenchana or in English I’m a Cyborg but that’s OK.

Brief synopsis: A girl who thinks she is a combat cyborg checks into a mental hospital, where she encounters other psychotics. Eventually, she falls for a man who thinks he can steal people’s souls.

Does this sound a little bit like the book (and film) K-Pax? Hmmm…just a little bit, check this synopsis out…

I have not seen this movie yet but looking at the reports on YouTube people seem generally favorable. it does look like a typical Korean film though with lots of hysteria, shouting and over the top performances. Maybe that’s what it’s like in Korea?

The Independent on Saturday newspaper this past weekend (20/03/2008) had an advert for the new acer Aspire Gemstone Blue computer. Being in the market for a new (big) laptop this model looks like a contender. The price is pretty good and the specification out of the box is pretty impressive. Here is the official website. Acer has introduced two new models, which come equipped with a variety of useful features, amongst which are the additions of Blu-ray players and Dolby Home Theater surround sound. They’ve given the laptops (the catchily named 8920G and 6920) a cool blue interface and they’re available in 16 inch and 18.4 inch screens, which is a first for the laptop market. A well as this they both are equipped with full HD playback and the cool Cine Dash Media Console interface.

The cool Cine Dash interface (as seen above) works with touch, and lets you turn the multimedia aspects of the computer on without turning on the main system. You can scroll through your media using the touch sensitive interface which also glows a lovely blue, and navigate your way through the ‘Acer Arcade’.

The sound quality of these machines is also impressive as they’re now incorporating Dolby Surround Sound quality rather than Virtual sound quality as seen in previous models, and have a 5:1 home theatre system built in. The 6920G is the 16 inch model and ranges from £699- £1149 in price, depending on what options you pick. You can choose up to a 320GB hard drive, optional TV tuner and Windows Vista, as well as a remote control. The 8920 retails from £899-£1399 and has up to 320GB hard drive, Bluetooth connectivity, and 8 cell battery and a TV Tuner. Both have inbuilt webcams, the Cine-Dash interface and a minimum of 250GB.

I might check these out in a shop…heh heh…

Call me an old cynic but todays Earth Hour event has been undermined by the WWF using Facebook as their chosen vehicle for a CO2 footprint calculator. This is a bit like buying an electric car from GMC or Ford Motor Corp. Facebook has well documented ties with the most right wing of right wing American Republican politicians.

What might be a more positive move would be to have an international no car day or even better an international no car year, think how much oil would be saved if nobody drove a personal car for just one year?

Now that would be worth writing about.

It is possible for individuals to do a little bit towards reducing their carbon footprint by getting involved with the Earth Hour initiative (links to the Google information page as the Earth Hour site is unobtainable at the moment).

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

If you are after a new computer check this site for information on greener computing. Of course the greenest computing is mental arithmetic but that might make playing 3D games a bit dull.

If you want to check your carbon footprint go here but don’t bother if you own a car because you’ll be buggered from the off – crush it up, recycle all the parts, sweep up the remaining mess and then test your CO2 footprint. You might also struggle .to keep your rating down if you have children – do as with your car then try again.
